(16564) Coriolis Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 30 January 1992 by E. W. Elst at La Silla.

Gaspard Gustave de Coriolis (1792–1843) was a French mathematician and physicist who showed that the laws of motion could be used in a rotating frame by adding an extra force, the Coriolis acceleration, to the equations of motion (Sur les équations du mouvement relatif des systèmes de corps, 1835).Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 6, #3, 5), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
