(30444) Shemp Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 5 July 2000 by J. Broughton at Reedy Creek.

Brooklyn-born Shemp Howard (Samuel Horwitz, 1895-1955) of Three Stooges fame was an original member during their 1920s vaudeville years. In 1946 he appeared on screen to replace his ailing brother Curly. Like Curly, Shemp was a naturally gifted comedian who brought his own style of comedy to the act.Naming citation (20020427/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
