Discovered on 5 March 1997 by Spacewatch at Kitt Peak.

Erik Satie (1866-1925), French composer and pianist, is best known for his solo piano pieces, including the Gymnopedies, Gnossiennes, and Nocturnes. The tendency toward extreme simplicity in his music influenced his contemporaries Debussy, Poulenc and Ravel, and later in America, John Cage.Naming citation (20001111/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
