Discovered on 6 January 2000 by LONEOS at Anderson Mesa.

Geologist John Barlow Reid (b. 1940), a teacher for 30 years at Hampshire College, Massachusetts, has studied the earth and moon using isotopic methods. He also developed archaeological evidence for slavery migration and the life and health of past populations. The name was suggested by L. A. McFadden and R.
