(8040) Utsumikazuhiko Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 16 September 1993 by Endate, K., Watanabe, K. at Kitami.

Kazuhiko Utsumi (b. 1937), made the first identification of many of the spectral lines and determined element abundances for carbon stars. At Hiroshima University he has taught astronomy and astrophysics to more than 30~000 students. The name was suggested by Y. Yamada.Naming citation (19990928/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
