(34838) Lazowski Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 21 September 2001 by W. K. Y. Yeung at Desert Eagle.

Eugene Lazowski (1913-2006) was a Polish medical doctor. During the Second World War, he created a fake outbreak of highly contagious epidemic typhus in and around the town of Rozwadów. By doing so, he risked his own life, but saved thousands of Jews from the Holocaust.Naming citation (MPC batch dated 2016-04-22), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
