(52295) Koppen Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 15 November 1990 by E. W. Elst at La Silla.

Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) was a Russian-German botanist-climatologist. He developed the most popular system, still used, for a vegetation-based classification of the climate in different regions, a subdivision of climates into five major types, all but one defined by temperature criteria.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 5, #17, 6), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
