(11537) Guericke Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 29 April 1992 by F. Borngen at Tautenburg.

German physicist Otto von Guericke (1602-1686) studied in Jena and was mayor of Magdeburg. He invented the air pump and centrifuge, perceiving the substantial nature of air and determining its weight. His demonstration of the atmospheric pressure by means of the Magdeburg hemispheres is well known.Naming citation (20000523/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
