(10797) Guatemala Main-belt Asteroid
Discovered on 4 April 1992 by E. W. Elst at La Silla.
Guatemala is a country on the western Pacific Coast of the Central American isthmus. Mountain ranges containing many active volcanoes in the south contrast with the dense rainforest and savannahs of the north. The beautiful quetzal bird inhabits the cloud forest of the Petén, once the center of the Mayan civilization.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 3, #12, 6), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
