(24090) Grindavik Main-belt Asteroid
Discovered on 29 October 1999 by CSS at Catalina.
Grindavík is a town on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland. First mentioned in the 10th century, it became an important fishing station during the Middle Ages. The Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s main tourist attractions, is in a lava field north of the town. Since 2023, both the town and the lagoon have been threatened by a series of volcanic eruptions.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 5, #19, 6), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
