(11968) Demariotte Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 12 August 1994 by E. W. Elst at La Silla.

Edmé de Mariotte (1620-1684) was a French physicist who discovered independently of Boyle that the volume of a gas varies inversely with pressure. He proposed the word “barometer” for the instrument measuring the pressure of air and stated that Boyle's law holds only if there is no change in temperature.Naming citation (20030501/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
