Discovered on 2 September 1992 by Borngen, F., Schmadel, L. D. at Tautenburg.

American Arthur Holly Compton (1892-1962) discovered the Compton effect, which confirms the particle nature of electromagnetic radiation. He received the 1927 Nobel Prize in physics, together with C. T. R. Wilson.Naming citation (20030806/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
