(6827) Wombat Main-belt Asteroid
Discovered on 27 September 1990 by T. Urata at Oohira.
Three species of this marsupial inhabit Australia and Tasmania. The common wombat is the most widespread. The southern hairy-nosed wombat is restricted to arid regions. The northern hairy-nosed wombat is apparently on the brink of extinction.Naming citation (19990928/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
