(5597) Warren Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 5 August 1991 by H. E. Holt at Palomar.

Named in honor of Jeffery Warren (b. 1960), optical engineer at the Applied Physics Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University. Warren was responsible for the design, fabrication and operation of a major instrument on the NEAR spacecraft, the Near-Infrared Spectrometer (NIS). The NIS investigation represents the first-ever mapping of the surface of a minor planet from orbit. Name suggested and citation provided by J.
