(39529) Vatnajokull Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 3 November 1989 by E. W. Elst at La Silla.

Vatnajökull (Glacier of Lakes) is the largest glacier in Iceland, covering 8 percent of the country. Under its surface there are several volcanoes. During the last ice age, numerous volcanic eruptions occurred under the glacier. Recently, the area is again the scene of heavy volcanic eruptions.Naming citation (MPC batch dated 2014-10-08), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
