(9561) van Eyck Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 19 August 1987 by E. W. Elst at La Silla.

Jan van Eyck (1395-1441) was a Flemish painter best known for The Adoration of the Lamb (1432), displayed in the cathedral of Ghent. There is some mystery about a second name, Hubert, appearing on the Ghent Altarpiece. Hubert was also a Flemish painter and probably the brother of Jan.Naming citation (20021120/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
