(596543) Ubu Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 6 November 2005 by J.-C. Merlin at Nogales.

Ubu is a character created by the French writer Alfred Jarry. He appeared for the first time in the play Ubu roi in 1896. The character of Ubu has become proverbial, a symbol of the delirium of power and the absurdity of political hierarchies. The derived adjective ubuesque is applied to absurd, grotesque and caricatured behaviors.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 4, #10, 17), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
