(8209) Toscanelli Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 28 February 1995 by Sicoli, P., Ghezzi, P. at Sormano.

Paolo dal Pozzo Toscanelli (1397-1482) was an Italian physician, astronomer, cosmographer and mathematician. Columbus may have used his map of the world on the 1492 voyage. Toscanelli was the first to plot observations of comets on star charts, thereby supplying considerably improved information about their sky positions.Naming citation (20090806/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
