(12998) Thomas-Keprta Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 2 March 1981 by S. J. Bus at Siding Spring.

Kathie L. Thomas-Keprta (b. 1957) has made major contributions to the study of extraterrestrial materials. Her research on magnetites found within the Martian meteorite ALH84001 revealed that they could be of biogenic origin.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 3, #11, 9), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
