Discovered on 31 October 1996 by A. Vagnozzi at Stroncone.

Santa-Lucia is a small Italian village on the green hills of Stroncone where a famous olive oil is produced. The village owes its name to the eponymous saint, who was a protector of eyes. It is the site of the observatory where this minor planet was discovered.
