(11063) Poynting Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 2 November 1991 by E. W. Elst at La Silla.

British physicist John Henry Poynting (1852-1914) introduced a theorem in 1884 in which he stated that the energy flow at a point can be expressed in terms of the electric and magnetic forces at that point. The so-called “Poynting vector” can be used to determine the radiated energy flow in the vicinity of an antenna.Naming citation (20000523/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
