(88705) Potato Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 17 September 2001 by W. K. Y. Yeung at Desert Eagle.

The United Nations has declared 2008 the International Year of the Potato. First domesticated in the Andes, the potato was carried to Europe in the sixteenth century. Its value lies in its high yield and its almost perfect balance of nutrition. Many minor planets are believed to be shaped like potatoes.Naming citation (20080618/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
