(316709) POSS Main-belt Asteroid
Discovered on 6 March 1997 by A. Lowe at Palomar.
The Palomar Observatory Sky Surveys (POSS) were two deep photographic surveys of the sky undertaken with the 1.2-m Oschin Schmidt. POSS-I was undertaken from 1949 to 1958, while POSS-II took from 1987 until 2002. This minor planet was identified on two plates from the second survey.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 2, #4, 9), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
