(29647) Poncelet Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 17 November 1998 by P. G. Comba at Prescott.

Jean Victor Poncelet (1788-1867) was a French mathematician and engineer and one of the founders of projective geometry. He introduced the concepts of points and lines at infinity and imaginary points, leading to greater generality in the statement of geometric theorems.Naming citation (20020128/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
