(14902) Miyairi Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 17 January 1993 by Kushida, Y., Muramatsu, O. at Yatsugatake.

Keinosuke Miyairi (1865–1946), of Kyushu Imperial University, a pioneer in epidemiology, discovered that the snail now called “Miyairi-gai” is an intermediate host for transmission of Shistosoma japonicum infection. This enabled schistosomiasis to be controlled. The name was suggested by S. Murayama and O. Muramatsu.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 3, #13, 7), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
