(10769) Minas Gerais Main-belt Asteroid
Discovered on 16 October 1990 by E. W. Elst at La Silla.
The Brazilian state of Minas Gerais (general mines), located in the mineral-rich uplands of the Brazilian highlands, is the storehouse of the mineral riches of the country. The discovery of gold in 1692 and diamonds in 1729 led to a mad rush to the new mines. Minas is also widely known for its semiprecious gems.Naming citation (20000320/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
