(26955) Lie Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 30 June 1997 by P. G. Comba at Prescott.

Marius Sophus Lie (1842-1899) was a Norwegian mathematician who formulated the theory of finite continuous groups of transformations, now called Lie groups. This theory and its generalizations have had a major impact on the development of twentieth-century algebra, as well as in celestial mechanics.Naming citation (20011101/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
