Discovered on 23 May 1998 by LINEAR at Socorro.
Imke de Pater (b. 1952) is a Dutch professor at the University of California in Berkeley. She led a worldwide campaign observing Jupiter’s radio emissions during the impact of comet D/1993 F2 (Shoemaker-Levy) with Jupiter in 1994 and has published several studies on the continuum emission of comets and radar aperture synthesis of asteroids.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 6, #11, 17), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
