(7816) Hanoi Mars-crossing Asteroid
Discovered on 18 December 1987 by M. Koishikawa at Ayashi.
Named for the capital of Vietnam. The discoverer visited the city in 1997 with Yoshihide Kozai to help Vietnamese astronomers install a 0.40-m Schmidt Cassegrain telescope with a CCD camera and a 0.10-m refractor. The equipment, installed at the National Pedagogical University, was obtained using funds from the Sumitomo Foundations, Japan, with the hope that astronomical research in Vietnam will thereby be promoted.Naming citation (19990202/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
