Discovered on 8 November 1980 by E. Bowell at Anderson Mesa.

Mikael Granvik (b. 1977) is a researcher at the University of Helsinki and Senior research scientist, Finnish Geodetic Institute. He has pioneered statistical methods for asteroid identification based on sparse astrometric data and devised a novel near-Earth-object population model.Naming citation (MPC batch dated 2014-07-12), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
