Discovered on 16 November 1993 by Farra d'Isonzo at Farra d'Isonzo.

Felice Ierman (1922-1996), father of this minor planet's co-discoverer Giovanni Ierman, was a strong believer in science and technology who inspired his son's passion for astronomy. He also contributed morally and materially to the construction of the first Farra d'Isonzo observatory.Naming citation (19991123/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
