Discovered on 21 March 2001 by SKADS at Kitt Peak.

Delmar Barker (1941–2023) was an American physicist whose work spanned the spectrum from γ rays to radio frequencies. His 42 patents covered fields ranging from geology to antimatter. His final project was developing a nuclear-powered rocket engine, an endeavor cut short prematurely. His smile and engaging manner were an integral part of his legacy.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 3, #12, 16), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
