Discovered on 17 December 1998 by Pravec, P., Babiakova, U. at Ondrejov.

Záviš Bochníček (b. 1920), a Czech astronomer living in Slovakia, worked on photographic observations of artificial satellites and computed their orbits. He discovered two novae and popularizes astronomy and cosmonautics. During 1956–1958 he was a director of the Astronomical Institute in Tatranská Lomnica.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 3, #13, 7), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
