(17285) Bezout Main-belt Asteroid

Discovered on 3 July 2000 by P. G. Comba at Prescott.

Étienne Bezout (1739-1783) was a French algebraist of great manipulative skills. He studied the problem of reducing multiple equations to a single one by elimination of variables, and proved that the degree of the resulting equation is the product of the degrees of the original equations.Naming citation (20010109/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
