Discovered on 24 August 1998 by ODAS at Caussols.

Barry Burke, who works at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, has spent his career designing many of the world's best CCD sensors. They include the 2K × 4K sensors that are used in most of the leading ground-based observatories and the orthogonal transfer CCDs that are providing breakthrough technology for Pan-STARRS.Naming citation (20051215/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
