(19776) Balears Main-belt Asteroid
Discovered on 4 August 2000 by J. Nomen at Ametlla de Mar.
The people of the western Mediterranean group of islands Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, known as the Balears (or Balearic Islands), have a distinct culture and history. The name of the islands was given by Greek navigators after suffering the accurate sling shots (ballein) thrown at them by the islanders.Naming citation (20010804/MPCPages.arc), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
