(8564) Anomalocaris Outer Main-belt Asteroid
Discovered on 17 October 1995 by Shimizu, Y., Urata, T. at Nachi-Katsuura.
Anomalocaris canadensis, a large carnivorous arthropod, was one of the many uniquely shaped multicellular creatures that appeared during the Cambrian explosion. The fossil was first discovered in the Burgess Shale in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The name was suggested by I. Makino.Naming citation (WGSBN Bull. 2, #11, 5), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
