Discovered on 22 August 1990 by H. E. Holt at Palomar.

Abū Naṣr Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad Fārābī (c. 872-c. 951) spent much of his life in Baghdad as a prominent philosopher, scientist and music scholar. He revived and internationalized the Aristotelian tradition, translated the philosopher's works from Greek to Arabic, and preserved and expanded upon them in his own writings.Naming citation (MPC batch dated 2016-11-14), IAU / Minor Planet Center, via NASA/JPL
